What are biscuits ? How do they work ?

In the simplest terms, biscuits are small wooden elements used to join furniture components. They are also known as Lamellos. Biscuits are typically made from compressed laminated beech hardwood. A slot cutter (biscuit joiner) is the standard tool used in the production process.

However, if the connected parts are subjected to very high forces, it is better to use screws or threaded furniture dowels instead.
