1. Dimensional Planning and Pipe Cutting
Define the exact distances. The pipe length does not equal the visible distance between two connectors, because the tube is inserted into the pipe connectors (the insertion depth, usually 25 mm - 35 mm per side). Add this insertion depth to the desired clear internal measurement. For the shelf depth, base your dimensions on the intended purpose. A bookcase usually requires a depth of 250 mm - 300 mm. If you are planning a narrow unit for the hallway, a depth of 200 mm is often sufficient.
2. Positioning Wall and Floor Flanges
Start with the anchoring. Transfer the drill holes of the flanges onto the wall. Use a cross-line laser to ensure that the wall shelves stand perfectly plumb later. Drill the holes (typically 8 mm) and insert the wall plugs flush. Do not tighten the flange screws completely yet, leaving 1 mm - 2 mm of play for tolerance adjustment during pipe installation.
3. Assembling the Pipe Frame
Insert the first vertical steel pipe into the floor flange. Tighten the grub screws (socket set screws) lightly. Now slide the first T-piece for the lowest shelf tier onto the tube. 4. Fitting Shelf Supports

Common Installation Mistakes
- Incorrect pipe tolerances: A pipe connector for 25 mm pipes will not work reliably with pipes measuring 25.4 mm (1 inch) or 24.8 mm. The pipe will either jam during insertion or the screw will not engage deeply enough.
- Missing wall anchoring on freestanding designs: From a height of 1000 mm upwards, even floor-standing shelves must be anchored to the wall to prevent tipping.
- Stripped threads: Excessive leverage on the Allen key can damage the internal thread of cast aluminium connectors. Hand-tightening is generally sufficient to achieve the required clamping force (often over 500 Newtons of pull-out force per connector).
- Sagging shelves: A solid wood board of 18 mm thickness will bow under load if the span between the shelf brackets exceeds 800 mm. For wider shelving, plan for a central vertical pipe support.
