  • Replace the hinge or mounting plate: If the screw holes in the timber are sound, but the hinge arm is bent, the internal spring is broken, or the adjustment screws are stripped, a straightforward hardware replacement is all that is required.
  • Replace both: If the cabinet took a heavy impact that simultaneously tore the screws out and distorted the hinge arm, fitting a new hinge alongside a reinforcement plate will restore full function.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide

1. Remove the Damaged Hinge

Support the door and unclip or unscrew the hinge from the carcass. Unscrew the hinge cup from the door or the mounting plate from the carcass side wall, depending on where the damage has occurred. Clean away any loose flakes of chipboard from the damaged area so the surface sits flush.

2. Align the Repair Plate

Repair plates are pre-punched with multiple hole configurations to suit standard European concealed hinges (such as standard 35 mm cup fittings and 32 mm system carcass drillings). Position the repair plate over the damaged area:

  • For carcass repairs: Place the plate against the inner side panel so the central cut-out or mounting pattern matches your hinge mounting plate.
  • For door repairs: Position the plate over the circular 35 mm cup recess.

3. Fasten the Plate

Secure the steel plate to the undamaged timber surrounding the blow-out using the countersunk wood screws provided with the kit. By driving screws into fresh, solid material further away from the original hole, the plate creates a robust new foundation.

4. Reattach and Adjust the Hinge

Fix your hinge or mounting plate directly onto the threaded or pre-drilled holes in the repair bracket using the short machine screws provided. Rehang the cabinet door and use the hinge adjustment screws to align the door height, depth, and side-to-side gap.
