For example, if an MDF front weighs 4 kg, a total force of 40 N is required. Because wide flaps (from approx. 600 mm in width) must always be fitted with two struts to prevent the front from warping, you would choose two struts rated at 50 N each in this scenario (including a margin for lever travel). For solid timber fronts or larger dimensions, dedicated gas struts for heavy flaps with ratings from 100 N to 150 N per side must be selected.

Why can I not compress the new gas strut by hand? This is normal. A strut rated at 100 N requires a force of approx. 10 kg to compress.
