  3. Fix the runners in place with the enclosed wood screws (usually 3.5 mm x 16 mm). Use your PZ screwdriver for this. Ensure the runners are positioned completely level and sit flush with the front edge.

Step 3: Assembling the Carcase

Now the basic framework of the chest of drawers is erected. If you are building a larger model from 100 cm width upwards, a second person is helpful.

  1. Connect the base panel and the cross rails to one of the side panels, inserting the bolts into the edges.
  2. Tighten the cam lock fasteners with a half-turn clockwise until the joint is rigid.
  3. Fit the second side panel and lock the fasteners on this side as well.
  4. If the model includes furniture feet or plastic glides, screw or tap these into the underside of the base panel now.

  6. Place the top panel onto the side panels from above and lock the final fasteners.

  3. Measure the diagonals of the carcase (from corner to corner). If both measurements are identical, the chest of drawers is perfectly square.
  4. Nail the back panel firmly in place at intervals of roughly 15 cm. Take care to drive the nails straight so they do not break through the surface of the chipboard.

Step 5: Assembling the Drawers

Whether you are assembling a compact chest of drawers 60 cm wide or a larger model such as a chest of 8 drawers, the procedure for the drawers is repeated.

  1. Connect the drawer sides to the drawer back (usually with wood screws).
  2. Slide the thin drawer base into the grooved side and front sections.
  3. Attach the front panel to the side panels using the cam lock fasteners.
  4. Screw the narrow mating rail of the ball bearing runners onto the outside lower edges of the drawer sides.
  5. Fit the handles to the pre-drilled holes on the front panel.

Step 6: Inserting and Aligning Drawers

Slide the fully assembled drawers into the carcase. Align the runners on the drawer precisely with the runners inside the carcase. Push the drawer backwards with gentle pressure until the mechanism audibly engages. If this is a full-extension runner, the drawer can now be pulled out 100% without falling out.

Wall Fixing (Anti-Tip Device)

This step must not be skipped under any circumstances. As soon as multiple drawers are opened simultaneously, the centre of gravity shifts drastically forwards. Particularly with models that have a depth of only 30 cm or substantial designs like a heavy wooden chest of drawers, there is a severe risk of tipping.

  1. Position the chest of drawers in its final location.
  2. Level the unit using a spirit level. On uneven floors, small shims under the feet can help.
  3. Mark the position for the anti-tip bracket on the wall.
  4. Drill a hole (usually 8 mm, depending on wall construction) and insert a suitable wall plug.
  5. Fasten the metal angle bracket firmly to the wall and subsequently to the top panel or rear cross rail of the chest of drawers.

  • Stripped screw heads: Always use a matching screwdriver. Using a PH bit in a cross-head screw with a PZ drive quickly damages the screw head.
