It is the standard for flat-pack furniture intended for self-assembly. This technique is also used for high-end visible carcases where the outer sides must remain immaculate. A typical example is a freestanding bathroom cabinet wood, where the side panels are fully exposed to view.

When Wood Screws Are the Right Choice

Screw fastening is ideal for permanent installations, built-in wardrobes, and rapid jig building in the workshop. When a cabinet is built into an alcove or side infill panels are added anyway, the visibility of the screw heads is irrelevant. For a robust carcase made from 19 mm thick panels, wood screws 4mm with a length of 45 mm or 50 mm are outstandingly suitable. For lighter back panels or thinner materials, wood screws 3.5mm are preferred.
