Step 1: Measuring and Drilling the Cup Hole

  1. Determine the vertical position: The distance from the top and bottom door edges to the centre of the cup hole is generally 100 mm to 150 mm. For doors over 900 mm in height, a third hinge should be planned exactly midway between them.
  2. Mark the cup distance (C-dimension): This is the distance from the edge of the door to the rim of the 35 mm hole. Depending on the manufacturer and the desired gap, this dimension usually ranges from 3 mm to 6 mm. The centre point for the tip of the 35 mm Forstner bit is therefore 17.5 mm (half the diameter) plus the C-dimension. With a C-dimension of 4 mm, mark the centre at 21.5 mm from the edge.
