Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Removing the Old Fitting: Open the flap fully and support it (or have a second person hold it securely). Using a flat-blade slotted screwdriver, gently lever up the small metal retaining clip on the ball sockets of the old cylinder. The cylinder can now be pulled off the ball stud.
  2. Checking the Mounts: Check the round ball studs on the carcase side and the front panel. If these are identical to the sockets of the new furnica cylinder (usually standard dimensions), the existing brackets can remain in the timber. This saves time and avoids new drill holes.
  3. Replacing the Mounting Plates (if necessary): If the ball studs do not match, unscrew the old plates. Position the new plates using the exact same measurements. Use woodscrews (e.g. 4 mm x 16 mm). Ensure you do not drill through the material on an 18 mm thick door.
  4. Clipping in the New Cylinder: With the flap in the open position, push the cylinder sockets onto the ball studs until the spring clip audibly snaps into place. Important: The thicker cylinder body should point upwards, with the thin piston rod pointing downwards. This ensures proper lubrication of the internal seals by the oil contained inside the cylinder.

Can I replace only one side if the cabinet uses two lift stays? No. Gas struts should always be replaced in pairs. An old and a new cylinder possess different residual forces.
