Choosing the right sliding wardrobe door fittings depends heavily on door thickness, panel weight, and whether the system relies on top-hung or bottom-rolling mechanics. With accurate measurements and proper alignment, fitting wardrobe sliding doors can transform a bedroom alcove or custom carcass into smooth, practical storage.

Top-Hung vs Bottom-Rolling Systems

Before buying your sliding door wardrobe fittings, you must determine how the door weight will be supported:

  • Top-Hung Systems: The entire weight of the door is suspended from the top track via heavy-duty roller carriages. The floor track serves only as a guide channel or concealed pin, keeping the floor surface clear and easy to clean. This setup requires a structurally solid ceiling, lintel, or cabinet top capable of holding substantial downward loads.
  • Bottom-Rolling Systems: The door rests on bottom wheels that run along an aluminium floor track, while the top track acts purely as a stabilising guide.   3. Fit the Running Gear: Attach the roller carriages to the back or top edge of each door panel, maintaining equal distances from the corners.
  4. Mount and Plumb the Doors: Lift the rear door into the inner track first, followed by the front door into the outer track. Use a spirit level on the vertical edge to check plumb, then adjust the roller screws to eliminate any gaps against the side walls.
  5. Install Soft-Close Units: Position soft-close mechanisms and door activator pins according to your door panel width, ensuring the catch engages smoothly before the door reaches full travel.

Troubleshooting and Maintenance

If doors stick or jump off the track, check for debris in the bottom channel, as accumulated dust is the most common cause of rough rolling.
