Visually, these units vary greatly – from melamine-coated chipboard in wood decors like Wotan oak to matt lacquered MDF for a modern highboard in black. However, the fundamental mechanical assembly steps remain identical for almost all models.

Preparation and Checking the Scope of Delivery
Assembling furniture is like a mechanical clockwork: if a gear does not sit accurately at the beginning, the entire mechanism jams in the end. Before inserting the first dowel, proper preparation is required.
- Lay packages flat: Open the boxes on the floor. Use the cardboard directly as a soft surface to prevent scratches on the components.
- Sort components: Lay out all wooden parts in an orderly manner.
- Check fittings: Empty all screws, hinges, and connecting parts into small bowls. Compare the quantity of parts (e.g. cam locks, wooden dowels, screws) with the parts list in the included instructions.
Tools Required
For assembling highboards, a solid basic set of hand tools is usually sufficient.
- Cross-head screwdrivers: Strictly required in sizes PZ2 (Pozidriv) for most furniture fittings and PH2 (Phillips) for specific screws. The wrong drive will ruin the screw head.
- Cordless screwdriver: With suitable bits and properly set torque (low setting for chipboard).

Assembling a Highboard: Step-by-Step Guide
The assembly sequence is critical for structural stability. Always follow the manufacturer's specific instructions, as drilling hole positions vary. However, the process generally follows this proven structure.
Step 1: Base Elements and Side Panels (Carcass)
Start with the base and side panels. Insert the wooden dowels into the designated edge holes. If necessary, apply a small drop of wood glue into the hole before gently tapping the dowel in with the rubber mallet.
The primary connection is usually made using cam locks and connecting pins. Screw the metal pins (dowels) into the pre-drilled threads in the side panels. Then join the panels together. The round cam lock housings are inserted into the large holes of the mating piece and tightened clockwise by about 180° using a screwdriver until the joint closes securely.
Step 2: Fitting the Back Panel and Squaring the Carcass
This step is the most critical for ensuring straight furniture. If the back panel is fitted out of square, the doors cannot be adjusted flush later on.
Lay the assembled carcass face down on the floor. Place the back panel (usually thin HDF) on top. Before nailing or screwing it down, measure the diagonals of the carcass. Use the folding ruler to measure from the top left to the bottom right corner, and compare this measurement with the distance from the top right to the bottom left corner. If both measurements are millimetre-identical, the cabinet is completely square. Now fix the back panel in place.
Step 3: Attaching Furniture Legs
While the carcass is still lying down, fit the furniture legs. For models with a width of 70 cm or 110 cm, an additional central support leg is often provided to prevent the base panel from sagging. Screw the legs securely onto the marked positions. If the legs are height-adjustable, screw them all the way in initially.
Now stand the unit upright and place it in its final position. Use the spirit level to level the highboard accurately using the adjustable feet.
Step 4: Installing Drawers and Runners
If the model features drawers, the runner tracks are installed next. With a ball bearing runner (telescopic slide), the inner rail often needs to be unlatched and removed using a small release lever. The wide outer runner is screwed to the inside of the carcass, whilst the narrow inner rail is fixed to the drawer box.
Pay attention to specifications: a full extension runner pulls out 100%, allowing easy access to the entire contents. A single extension runner stops at around 75%. Carefully slide the assembled drawers into the runners until the mechanism audibly clicks into place.

If top drawers are fully loaded and pulled out, or if children lean on the doors, the piece of furniture will inevitably tip forward.
Wall anchoring is therefore strictly mandatory. Use the provided mounting brackets. Select appropriate wall plugs and screws tailored to your specific wall construction (concrete, brick, plasterboard). Drill the holes, insert the plugs flush, and screw the brackets securely to the wall and to the top panel of the highboard.

- Uneven door gaps: This is rarely due to a manufacturing defect, but rather hinge adjustment. A modern concealed hinge is adjustable in three dimensions (3D). The front screw on the hinge arm regulates lateral overlay (the gap between doors). The rear screw adjusts depth (distance between the door and the carcass). The screws on the mounting plate allow for vertical height adjustment.
- Sticking drawers: Check whether the carcass is perfectly level. A twisted cabinet pulls the drawer runner tracks out of parallel.
- Stripped screw holes: If a screw spins freely in the wood, the cordless screwdriver torque was set too high. In chipboard, filling the hole with a little wood glue and a matchstick, letting it dry, and re-driving the screw by hand will resolve the issue.
