Essential Hardware for Cabinet Installation

Before lifting any carcase into position, having the correct hardware laid out ensures a seamless installation. Key hardware components include:

  • Adjustable cabinet legs: Heavy-duty plastic or metal levelling legs that slot or screw into base cabinet bottoms, allowing fine height adjustment on uneven floors.
  • Cabinet hanging brackets: Concealed or visible wall-mounting brackets fitted inside upper carcases to hang them securely onto walls.
  • Wall mounting suspension rails or plates: Metal tracks or individual brackets screwed firmly into the masonry or timber studs to receive the hanging brackets.

Installing and Levelling Base Units

Proper cabinet installation always starts with finding the highest point of your floor across the proposed run. Use a long spirit level or a laser level to mark your baseline reference line around the room.

Fit adjustable legs to the bottom of each base carcase, typically inset 50 mm to 70 mm from the front and back edges. Stand the corner or end cabinet in position first and wind the legs up or down until the top edge matches your datum line. Use a spirit level along both the depth and width of the unit.
