Step 1: Calculate and Mark the Setback Dimension
Before the gliders are screwed into place, the exact position on the underside of the carcase must be defined. The setback dimension is crucial here. This dimension determines how far the plinth sits behind the front edge of the carcase to guarantee sufficient toe kick space when standing in front of the cabinet.
- Lay the cabinet carcase on its back (the back panel lies flat on the floor).
- Measure inwards from the front bottom edge of the carcase. A standard setback dimension to the centre of the plinth foot is 40 mm - 50 mm.
- Take into account the thickness of the plinth fascia (usually 16 mm or 19 mm). Once the fascia is mounted, it should sit approximately 20 mm - 30 mm behind the front door.
- At the rear of the carcase, the foot is usually fitted offset by 50 mm - 60 mm inwards from the back edge. This creates space for pipes or cables running along the wall.

Step 2: Mount the Fixing Plate (Glider)

- Use short chipboard screws with a countersunk head. For a standard base panel made of 16 mm thick chipboard, the screws must not exceed a length of 15 mm. For 19 mm thick bases, 17 mm screws can be used.
- Screw the glider firmly through the provided holes (usually 3 or 4 fixing points). Ensure the cordless screwdriver is aligned straight so the screw heads sink flush into the plastic of the glider.
- For cabinets with a width of 800 mm or more, a fifth foot must be mounted in the centre to prevent the base from sagging under load.
Step 3: Insert the Plinth Foot and Pre-Adjust
As soon as all gliders are screwed down, the actual foot is fitted.
- Push the plastic tube of the plinth foot into the glider socket. On many systems, the foot locks in with an audible click.
- Roughly adjust the thread of the foot to the desired plinth height (e.g. 100 mm or 150 mm) at this stage. This saves considerable time and effort later when levelling under the upright cabinet.
- Turn all feet on a carcase to the exact same nominal dimension.

- Carefully tilt the cabinet onto the fitted feet. Avoid heavy shear forces – do not drag the cabinet across the floor; lift it instead to prevent the plastic feet from snapping.
- Position the carcase against the wall.
- Place the spirit level on the carcase bottom panel (not on the top, as this might be slightly bowed).
- Adjust the feet by turning the bottom knurled wheel. A typical adjustment range is -10 mm to +20 mm.
- Level the cabinet first in depth (front to back) and then in width (left to right).
Step 5: Attach the Fixing Clip and Plinth Fascia
The plinth fascia conceals the hardware and encloses the space beneath the unit. It is attached to the round feet using special clips.
- Measure the exact distances between the front plinth feet and transfer these dimensions to the back of the plinth fascia.
- Consider the height: the clip must be screwed to the fascia so that it snaps onto the straight tube section of the foot, not onto the thread.
- Screw the clips to the fascia using short screws (e.g. 3 x 15 mm).
- Guide the fascia under the cabinet and press it evenly against the feet until the clips securely grip the tube.

Not every piece of furniture is mounted on high, concealed plinth feet. For chests of drawers, sideboards, or low cabinets that stand on shallow timber plinths or directly on the floor, felt pads are used instead. They protect sensitive hard flooring such as parquet, laminate, or vinyl from scratches and make moving the furniture easier.
Choosing the right gliders depends on the contact surface and the colour of the furniture:
- Adapting the geometry: Round felt pads are suitable for cylindrical furniture feet or slim profiles. For continuous plinth rails or wide block feet, rectangular felt pads or square felt pads distribute the pressure optimally.
