When the runners of an older fitted kitchen jam, catch, or have broken plastic rollers after years of heavy use, a replacement is due. People often specifically search for brand-specific spare parts. Technically, however, it is generally not mandatory to use identical components from the original kitchen manufacturer. 1. Nominal Length and Installation Depth

The length of the runner depends on the depth of the drawer. Standard lengths in furniture making range from 250 mm - 800 mm. For standard kitchen base units, runners with a nominal length of 450 mm or 500 mm are typically used. The cabinet carcass must have a clear internal minimum depth, which generally corresponds to the nominal length plus a 3 mm to 5 mm tolerance.

2. Extension Type: Full Extension vs. Partial Extension

A full extension allows the drawer to be pulled 100% out of the carcass. This provides full access right to the rearmost corner. A partial extension, on the other hand, stops at around 75% of the runner length, leaving the rear area inside the cabinet.   • Bradawl or a 3 mm wood drill bit
  • Chipboard screws (usually Ø 3.5 mm or 4 mm)

Step-by-Step Installation

  1. Dismantling: Remove the old drawer and unscrew the runners from the carcass. If dealing with roller runners, the profiles screwed to the drawer must also be removed.
  2. Measuring and marking: Check whether the old hole pattern (typically System 32) can be used for the new runners. If not, mark the new horizontal line using a spirit level.
  3. Mounting the carcass profile: Screw the new runners to the inner cabinet wall. Use Euro screws (for existing 5 mm holes) or traditional wood screws for this.
  4. Mounting the drawer profile: Fasten the counterpart to the drawer. With an undermount runner, the locking devices are also screwed to the front underside of the drawer base.

Upgrading Doors Too: Concealed Hinges with Soft-Close
