The dynamic load capacity of a drawer runner indicates the maximum total weight in kilograms that a slide can carry safely and permanently whilst in motion – namely during opening and closing. This value always includes the tare weight of the drawer box plus its contents, and is typically based on a specific runner length.
What exactly does the load capacity of drawer runners mean?
In technical terms, the specified load rating for fittings standardly refers to the dynamic load capacity. When a drawer is moved, physical laws and acceleration exert different forces on the profile guides and the ball bearing compared to a purely static, closed state. If the weight exceeds the permissible limit, the raceways deform, the balls or rollers jam, and the runner suffers irreparable damage. During installation and everyday use, weight must always be evenly distributed across the drawer to avoid one-sided peak loads.
Types of drawer runners and their load limits
The construction of the runner largely determines how much weight it can support. The material thickness of the steel and the type of rolling elements play the primary role here.

An 80 kg drawer pull-out develops enormous kinetic energy during motion, which the furniture damper must cushion smoothly without bottoming out. Similarly, drawer runners push to open must feature sufficiently strong ejection springs to push open a fully loaded, handleless front against resistance.
